What is sales tax?

Sales tax is a tax that state or local governments add to certain purchases.

When you buy a product or service, sales tax may be added to the total price at checkout. The business collects this tax and sends it to the appropriate government authority.

In the United States, there is no federal sales tax. Each state sets its own tax rules and rates.

Why am I being charged sales tax?

Anytime Mailbox provides a software service (SaaS) that allows you to manage your mailbox online.

Sales tax is applied based on your billing address, not the location of your mailing center.

If software services are taxable in the state or country listed in your billing address or zip code, we are required by law to collect the applicable tax.

You will see the sales tax listed as a separate line item on your invoice for transparency.

When does Anytime Mailbox have to collect sales tax?

Businesses are required to collect sales tax once they reach a certain sales threshold in a state, also known as nexus.

Once this threshold is reached, the business must register with that state and start collecting sales tax from customers whose billing address is located there.

Can I be exempt from paying sales tax?

Some organizations may qualify for sales tax exemption, including:

  • Nonprofit organizations

  • Charities

  • Religious institutions

  • Government agencies

If your organization qualifies, you will need to obtain a sales tax exemption certificate from your state.

Once you receive the certificate, please send a copy to: help@anytimemailbox.com

Please note that sales tax exemption rules vary by state.
