If you want someone else to pick up mail on your behalf, you must grant them official authorization. This process requires submitting a new, notarized USPS Form 1583 to comply with postal regulations.
When submitting this request, you must provide two forms of valid identification (one Photo ID and one Address ID) for both you and the person you are authorizing.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Fill Out Form 1583
When completing the new USPS Form 1583, ensure that you include the authorized individual's information in the following specific sections:
Section 5: Enter the authorized individual’s name and information.
Section 10: Enter the authorized individual’s Photo ID information.
Section 11: Enter the authorized individual’s Address ID information.
2. Gather the Required Identifications
You will need to submit a total of four IDs (two for you, and two for them):
Your IDs: One valid photo ID and one valid address ID.
Their IDs: One valid photo ID and one valid address ID belonging to the authorized person.
3. Notarize and Submit
Once the form is completed and both sets of IDs are gathered, the form must be notarized before final submission to our team.
Note: The authorized individual does not need to be present at the notary session.
Important Distinction: Authorized Person vs. Mailbox Recipient
Please Note: An authorized individual is strictly permitted to pick up mail on your behalf. They are not a mailbox recipient. This means we cannot accept or process mail that is legally addressed to them. If they need to receive their own mail at this location, they must be added to the account as a formal mailbox recipient instead.
