We welcome international customers! You do not need to be a US citizen or have US-based identification to open a mailbox.
It is recommended use your passport as a photo ID when applying for a U.S. mailbox.
However, please note that at least one additional ID must confirm your address, as required in Sections 4f and 9b of USPS Form 1583.
The most common misunderstanding is that this must be a US document. It does not. The USPS requires a document that links your name to your physical home address.
Acceptable Non-US equivalents include:
Current Lease/Rental Agreement: Must be for your current residence.
Home Insurance Policy: Your current homeowner or renter insurance.
Vehicle Registration: A valid registration card for your car.
Vehicle Insurance Policy: Your current car insurance document.
Voter Registration Card: If issued by your local or national government.
What is NOT accepted: By law, we cannot accept utility bills (water, electric, gas), bank statements, or credit card statements for USPS verification.
Foreign-Language Documents
If your identification documents are issued in a foreign language, a certified translation must be provided. Exceptions apply only if:
The issuing country is the applicant’s country of origin, or
The mailbox location has confirmed the ability to interpret the document.
