How to Change Your Address with USPS

Once you’ve signed up for your virtual mailbox and completed the verification process, the next step is to inform your senders of your new address. While you can manually notify your senders, using the USPS website provides a more convenient option.

How to Change Your Address Online

Step 1: Visit the USPS Change of Address® website

  • Navigate to the official USPS Change of Address page.

Step 2: Choose the Move Type

  • Select whether the move is for an "Individual," "Family" (for those with the same last name), or "Business."

Step 3: Complete the Online Form

  • Enter the required details, including your old and new addresses.

  • Make sure to indicate your mailbox number using the below sample formats:

    • 5953 Mabel Rd 265

    • 5953 Mabel Rd-265

    • 5953 Mabel Rd #265

  • If the suggested address format above does not work, kindly contact your mailbox location to confirm the correct address format accepted by the USPS. Additionally, clarify whether excluding the mailbox number could cause any issues or delays.

Step 4: Verify Your Identity

  • Choose to receive a verification code or link via your mobile phone.

  • Pay the $1.10 identity verification fee using a credit card. The billing address on the card must match either your old or new address.

Step 5: Confirmation and Notifications

  • If your verification succeeds:

    • USPS will email you a confirmation code to modify or cancel your request if needed.

    • A Move Validation Letter will be sent to your old address.

    • A Customer Notification Letter (with your confirmation code) will arrive at your new address about five business days before your change of address start date.

    • A welcome kit with coupons from USPS partners will also be sent to your new address.

Temporary Address Change

If you’re relocating for a short period (15 days to 1 year) due to reasons like school or visiting family, submit a temporary change of address request instead.


In-Person Change of Address

You must submit your request in person at your local Post Office location if:

  • You’re moving outside the United States.

  • You’re submitting the change on behalf of someone else.

  • You’re unable to verify your identity online.

Important Note

A USPS change of address only updates your mailing address with the Post Office. You must still notify:

  • Government agencies (e.g., Social Security, DMV, voter registration).

  • Companies (e.g., banks, insurance providers, online stores).
